The assembled works of art express Van der Meulen's thoughts, but they can also represent an aspect of daily life. Van der Meulen is inspired by cyclical processes: old, useless and discarded materials are given a new dimension. He collects metallic objects that fit together in color and form and he then arranges and deforms them into an entirely new composition.
The statues made by Van der Meulen are spatial sculptures characterising bizarre forms. He prefers using elements that are in motion or suggest movement. Every sculpture has its own language. Often they resemble animal-like or human creatures represented in an expressive way.
