Don van der Meulen

Expressive figurative Sculptures

Don van der Meulen was born in 1953 in Emmen (The Netherlands). He is an art teacher at the Augustinuscollege, a comprehensive school in the city of Groningen in the north of The Netherlands. He also works as a visual artist. Van der Meulen has an artistic background. His father was a doctor as well as a visual artist and inspired his son to appreciate art from an early age onwards. Van der Meulen studied craft and drawing at the Ubbo Emmius, a secondary school, and spatial plastic arts at the academy of Minerva. His work consists of expressive, figurative sculptures and watercolor paintings. He creates sculptures and he models collected (found) and often oxidized materials. He then transforms these materials into a new reality.
